ImageFrom Atlanta Georgia, Alex "Gabby" Land has been flying since he was big enough to hold the control yoke. His first flight was in a Cessna Skymaster at the age of about 2 months. Now 18, Alex has over 1000 hours of flight time. He soled a glider at 14, an Extra 300L at 16, and now flys a 400HP Russian Sukhoi SU26. He has hours in more than 12 different types of aircraft, including over 50 in the L39 military jet.

Alex is the youngest person to hold a FAST card allowing him to fly formation in airshows. He is also the youngest person to be issued a low altitude waiver by the FAA to fly aerobatics during an airshow.

He is currently competing in the Advanced Category in aerobatic competitions around the country. He is on the US Team this year and will be the youngest person ever to represent the United States at the Advanced World Championships.

In addition to getting his pilots license last year, Alex also earned the rank of Eagle Scout.  He recently earned his Instrument Rating, his Commercial License, his Multi engine rating and his Experimental Type Ratings in the L39 and L29 military jets.
 
His other interests include downhill skiing, mountain climbing, scuba diving, remote control aircraft, WWII history, reading and playing the piano.
 
Alex was recently awarded a Presidential Scholarship to attend Austin College in Sherman, Texas next fall.


Alex's father, Jay Land, is a real estate developer in Atlanta, Georgia. Jay has been flying for over 30 years and is a commercial pilot with ratings in multiengine aircraft, seaplanes, and jets. He is also holds Instructor ratings.

With over 3000 hours, Jay is a Lead Qualified FAST card holder, as well as holding FAA Low Level Waivers for aerobatics at airshows in several different types of aerobatic aircraft and warbirds.

His interests include skiing, horseback riding and working to pay for all the gas Alex uses!
